The Reasons Behind Most Doctor's Preference For Wart Removal Through Medications

By Mike Burrows

When patients set up appointments with doctors because of their skin wart problems, the doctors often present two options to them. They can, in the first instance, decide to remove warts through 'procedures' like cryosurgery, laser treatment, electrodessication and so on. The other option would be medication. There are medicines that the doctors can prescribe which will gradually bring about an end to the skin warts. Given those two options, many doctors tend to opt for the treatment of warts using medications. The procedures, on the other hand, are only seen as last resorts by the doctors and not really their first choice of treatments. If, no matter what medication is used, the skin warts still persist, that is the only time they will turn to medical procedures for the solution or cure. Now let us try to look at the reasoning of most doctors for choosing medication over the medical procedures to be used to remove skin warts.

Doctors know that medications are less time consuming when used to remove skin warts. That is the first reason why they prefer it. But if you look at the procedures like cryosurgery, electrodessication and laser treatment, it is obvious that even organizing them would take a while. If you take medications, they are easier to dispense, take less amounts of time, and not at all complicated to use. There is also the fact that, more often than not, they are found to be more effective in doing the job.

Medications also involve less mess once they are used or administered to take care of skin wart problems. There are medications that have to be ingested, while there are others that will work just by rubbing them on the affected area of the skin. Using them can't be compared to undertaking medical procedures where sharp instruments or strong light beams are used, where anesthesia is applied, and where so many things could end up going wrong. If possible, these doctors would choose the noninvasive methods. There is a risk that they will be sued if something goes wrong during an invasive procedure or surgery.

There are medications that have to be ingested, while there are others that will work just by rubbing them on the affected area of the skin. Unlike medical procedures, the person who has the skin warts to be removed does not have to be poked, prodded and exposed to the risks usually involved in procedures of this kind. Doctors nowadays are extremely wary of lawsuits and therefore tend to show a preference for the less invasive ways of getting things done.

The third reason as to why many doctors prefer to remove warts using medications is in the fact that the medications seem to be, objectively speaking, more effective than the procedures. For example, there is salicylic acid. According to some studies, using salicylic acid in medications would be more beneficial to the person taking it. It is but natural that doctors want their patients always in a good condition. Seeing as the medications are providing better results, that will lead to the skin wart removal process to be done by using the medications instead. The medications remove the warts by going for the causative agent of the warts itself, the HP virus. But if you look at the procedures, you will find that they are more concerned with removing the wart that can be seen. It does nothing to the causative agent, the HP virus. Although you have managed to eliminate the visible warts, they could still come back in the future.
