Finding Cures for Glioblastoma

By Eric Santucci

The sad truth is that, for all of our medical advancements, we're continually made aware of a number of extremely harmful diseases that have impacted scores of our population and affected the mortality of many people. Cancer sits toward the top of a list of major causes of death in our country, with brain cancer in particular taking the lives of so many people. Glioblastoma is a type of brain cancer tumor that has an unnaturally high casualty rate. It is crucial that we come together to work to discover a cure for brain cancer and Glioblastoma, lest it continue to hammer away at our population.

Some people aren't aware that there are various levels of brain cancer, some of which are more deadly than others. Glioblastoma is one of the most dangerous cancerous tumors. This tumor is more common in older people and can become active seemingly out of nowhere. This type of brain cancer is fatal at its worst, and give a patient only a short amount of time to live after they are diagnosed, unless rigorous treatment is used to delay the tumor.

Those diagnosed with Glioblastoma have desperately sought out ways of treating themselves through various forms of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Unfortunately, most of these methods, while able to extend the lifespan of the person by a matter of months or even years, usually do not fix the problem completely. Treatment for cancerous Glioblastoma is usually just delaying the inevitable without having a tangible cure to give the victims hope.

Although treatment has the potential to help this situation, it doesn't always carry enough weight to give us lasting hope. Treatment has a high failure rate and only stave's off the cancer for so long. A cure is the only permanent solution to this problem and it is what we must work towards if we want to see brain cancer eliminated completely. Only through donations, research efforts and support groups may make this dream of a cure a reality.

Glioblastoma is a threat that should be taken very seriously because it is a disease that is very difficult to treat. It's not enough to merely treat a tumor that is likely fatal. We need to find a cure for this brain cancer and fast, lest we continue to live in fear for ourselves and for our children. .
